4 Telltale Signs You Need to Have an Eye Exam

by Aug 2, 2017

At the Neal Eye Group, we believe that routinely undergoing a comprehensive eye exam is an effective way to maintain your visual health. Having one every two years can help keep your eyes in great shape for a longer time. That said, it may be best to have your eyes checked immediately if you have any of these four signs:

Eye Exam

  1. You Haven’t Had Your Eyes Checked for the Past Two Years

Some eye diseases are often referred to as “silent” problems because they do not show any signs or symptoms, particularly in their early phases. If you haven’t visited your eye doctor for the past two years, we suggest doing so as soon as possible. Eye exams help in the immediate identification and treatment of eye conditions. They give us greater chances of stopping their advancement and maintaining your eye health.

  2. You Have Pre-Existing Vision Problems or a High Risk of Having One

Heredity is a common risk factor for many vision disorders. If any of your relatives have had eye conditions, this puts you at a greater risk of acquiring them too. Having underlying health problems, such as diabetes, may also make you more likely to develop sight-threatening complications, particularly diabetic retinopathy. This is why your reliable eye doctor highlights the need to have regular eye assessments.

  3. You Have Recurring Headaches and Eye Strain

Structural irregularities in your eyes may force their supporting muscles to work harder. This causes additional pressure and stress, resulting in headaches and eye strain. This may also mean that your visual acuity has changed, requiring an upgrade in your lens prescription.

  4. You Find It Hard to See Close or Distant Objects Clearly

While refractive errors most often develop during childhood, you may also acquire them during your adult years. We may perform a comprehensive eye exam, which includes visual acuity and refraction tests to check how sharp your eyes are. Upon confirming these vision problems, we usually prescribe contact lenses or eyeglasses for your improved visual clarity.
